Ingredients

Shop
  • 2 cups dried apples
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

1

Simmer dried apples in water 30 minutes until soft. Drain and mash.

2

Stir in sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter. Let cool.

3

For dough: mix flour and salt. Cut in shortening.

4

Add water and mix until dough forms. Roll out thin.

5

Cut into 5-inch circles.

6

Place 2 tablespoons apple filling on each circle.

7

Fold over and seal edges with fork.

8

Fry in 350°F oil 2-3 minutes per side until golden.

9

Drain and dust with powdered sugar.

Chef's Comfy Tip

Seal the edges really well - if they come open during frying, the filling will leak out and make a mess.
