Soak catfish in 2 cups buttermilk for 30 minutes.
Mix cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper, cayenne, and garlic powder.
Heat oil in large skillet to 350°F.
Dredge catfish in cornmeal mixture and fry 3-4 minutes per side until golden.
Drain on paper towels and keep warm.
For hush puppies, mix self-rising cornmeal, self-rising flour, and onion.
Drop tablespoonfuls of batter into 350°F oil.
Fry 2-3 minutes until golden brown all over.
Serve catfish and hush puppies hot with tartar sauce and lemon wedges.
