- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions
Cook bacon in large pot until crispy. Remove and set aside.
Sauté onion in bacon drippings until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add garlic and cook 1 minute.
Add green beans, broth, sugar, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
Bring to boil, then reduce heat and simmer 45-60 minutes until very tender.
Stir in cooked bacon.
Adjust seasoning and serve with some of the cooking liquid.
Chef's Comfy Tip
Southern green beans are cooked way past crisp-tender - they should be soft and infused with all that bacon flavor.
