Ingredients
Shop- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 egg
- 2 lbs fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar (for berries)
- 2 cups heavy cream (for whipping)
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425°F.
Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter.
Pat dough to 3/4-inch thickness, cut into rounds.
Bake 12-15 minutes until golden.
Toss strawberries with sugar, let sit 30 minutes.
Whip cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks.
Split warm shortcakes, layer with strawberries and whipped cream.

Macerate the strawberries with sugar ahead of time - they'll release their juices and create a delicious syrup.
