Ingredients

  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese

Instructions

Bring water and salt to a boil in a heavy-bottomed pot.

Slowly whisk in grits, reduce heat to low.

Cook, stirring frequently, for 25-30 minutes until tender and creamy.

Stir in butter until melted.

Add cheddar cheese, cream cheese, and heavy cream, stirring until smooth.

Season with white pepper and adjust salt to taste.

Serve hot with extra butter on top if desired.
