Ingredients

Shop the tools
  • 4 cube steaks (about 6 oz each)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/4 cup flour (for gravy)
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Pat steaks dry with paper towels.

Mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, pepper, and salt in a shallow dish.

Whisk eggs and buttermilk in another dish.

Dredge each steak in flour, dip in egg mixture, then coat again in flour.

Heat 1/2 inch oil in large skillet over medium-high heat.

Fry steaks 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and keep warm.

Pour off all but 1/4 cup drippings, whisk in 1/4 cup flour.

Gradually add milk, whisking constantly until thickened.

Season gravy with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve steaks smothered in white gravy.
